“The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul.”
Carl Jung
Since 1971, the Village Pre-School
has embraced children’s learning by creating
wonderful friendships and lasting memories
while providing a firm, educational foundation.

Classes:
Our early childhood curriculum goal is for children to become enthusiastic learners.
Three Year Old Class - Meets twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 11:30am.
The Three/Four Year Old Mixed Class - Meets three times per week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons from 12:15pm to 2:45pm.
The Four Year Old Class - Meets three times a week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 11:30am.
The Enrichment Class– Fosters a child’s successful transition into kindergarten. This class meets once a week on Wednesday afternoon from 12:15pm to 2:45pm. This class is a project themed class where the concept is studied for several classes. The Enrichment class has an optional lunch bunch extended day from 10:45am to 12:15pm.
Lunch Bunch - Meets three days per week and offers a chance for the children to become accustomed to longer days in preparation of kindergarten. Children have the chance to bring their lunch, play informally, and focus on specific activities. Enrollment in the morning class means that a child goes from class time to lunch bunch at 11:30 to 1:00pm. If a child is enrolled in the afternoon class then lunch bunch begins at 10:45am until 12:15pm when class starts.
Staff:
Our wonderful staff is the heart of Village Pre-School. Each one of our teachers is an enthusiastic person, with creative ideas for the classroom. They bring their knowledge of foreign languages, art, science, physical education, nature, sign language, and music into the children’s lives. Judy Sims is the Director who guides the center in such a knowledgeable direction. All of the teachers have a background in Early Childhood Education as well as an area of expertise. Caryl Timmel is the music specialist, Liz Burwell is our sign language teacher, Margie Malatestinic is our physical education teacher, Julie Gorman is the Art specialist and Sue Daly is our Lunch Bunch teacher.
Daily Schedule: Upon arrival, the children identify their names on the attendance board, mark themselves present, and then wash their hands. After arrival there is one hour of child directed activities. Then it is teacher directed time when the children go into small groups to experience gym, music, literature, handwriting, and reading which are just some of the teacher directed components. If weather permits there is time to go on the playground that is specially designed for children ages 3-5.
Philosophy: Village Pre-School is an educational center that seeks to further the development of the child and the successful functioning of a group of young children. Each child is unique and the school’s focus is on developing each child’s passion. Our goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We are teaching children how to learn, not just in pre-school but all through their lives. We provide an atmosphere where every member of the school community feels valued, enabled, and enriched.
Learning and play are intertwined in a wonderful preschool educational environment where we have a wide variety of classes. The Village Pre-School, sponsored by the United Methodist Church of Bethel, is a non-sectarian nursery school open to all three, four and five year old children in the community. The purpose of the school is to provide the best possible pre-school experience in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. Our goal is to promote the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. The Village Pre-School is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs.
Our school supports the individuality of each child, as well as helping our children relate to the school community while giving children a positive sense of themselves.
Our goal is to enable each child to feel his/her own worth and dignity, to relate to other children in a social setting, and to engage in meaningful play and activities under qualified adult supervision. We hope to increase the child’s awareness of himself/herself, others and his/her environment. We want to help develop the whole personality of each child by providing an experience of lasting value. At the Village Pre-School, the children are the first concern of our talented teachers.
