Caryl Timmel, Teacher & Music/Movement Specialist:
|
| This is Caryl’s seventeenth year with us and she is a wonderful asset to our school. Caryl is the mother of two daughters and two sons and now a grandmother! She has a Masters degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from New York University. Caryl is our music and movement specialist in addition to being an early childhood teacher. Caryl’s background and experience ensure that your child has music every day they attend school. Her innovative ideas include our “visiting artist” program, as well as “music around the world.” Caryl is an accomplished dancer and enjoys playing the piano and guitar. She loves to share her French and Spanish stories and poems with the children. Her enthusiasm is contagious! Caryl always has new dance steps, instruments, and drumming techniques to keep the children current with new musical trends and to further inspire the children to love music as much as she does!

Judy Sims, Director & Creative Supervisor
|
| Years ago, I was originally called the day before school opened to help out in the classroom, and I have stayed ever since. It has truly been a joy for me! When my son was an infant and my daughter was a toddler, I graduated from Western CT State University with a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Elementary Education. My undergraduate studies include Fine Art and Early Childhood Education. I consider myself to be an artist and I enjoy being not only the Director of the Village Pre-School but working with the children on art projects as well as designing the art program. Before coming to Village Pre-School, I spent three years teaching second grade and taught Head Start in Danbury. I was selected, along with a team of educators, to write the social studies curriculum for the town of Newtown. At present, I am involved with several educational organizations. I am serving on the Northwest Accreditation Facilitation Project, the State accreditation Council, and I accepted the invitation to join Delta
Kappa Gamma Society International, an honor society for key women educators. These councils share the commitment to children and their families and address the pre-school needs of our three to five year olds.
I was asked to participate in the Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England. It was a professionally stimulating and personally rewarding experience. I was honored to be invited to attend along with thirty five prestigious delegates. This was the first time that the topic of early childhood and literacy was discussed at the oxford Round Table.
This past year has been very busy working on the early childhood program standards that are part of the NAEYC Re-Accreditation process. This encompasses the ten standards: relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment, leadership and management. We are happy to announce that we are one of the first schools in Connecticut to have achieved re-accreditation under the new rigorous system, and our scores in all areas were outstanding.
